Dear neighbors,
Thank you so much for reelecting me to the post of school commissioner. I am
once again humbled and honored . . . and back to work! On Tuesday, we will
(hopefully) approve our first school calendar that aligns our vacation days with
Eid and Yom Kippur, a decision which will reduce absenteeism and lessen the tensions of school
vs. faith for many more of our children. The Board also will get an update on the
Edmunds Middle School elevator project, which is currently out to bid, and
slated for completion this summer. Next up for massive 21st century renovation,
our high school. And of course, there are contract negotiations and budget
perils to navigate. Although my overarching obligation is to serve the best
interests of the children of Burlington, I am a representative of the voters of
Ward 5, so please keep letting me know your concerns, questions, and kudos, and
I will endeavor to keep you up to date right here on our communal front porch.
Thanks Michael and Valerie, and thanks once again to all of you.
