Dear neighbors: At the last round of school board meetings, we
got our first glimpse of the year to come. At our April meeting, we will
reorganize with our two new members, a new board chair, and changed committee
assignments.
In May, Superintendent Collins will present to the board three or four different
proposals for achieving socioeconomic integration in the district that are
costed out, with full specifics about who would go where, when, etc. These
proposals are for long range plans that would not begin until the 2008-9 school
year. The proposals will reflect the input we already have received from the
public. The Board has not yet established a plan or a timetable for future
public input and potential decision-making, but I certainly will keep you
informed as to what is going on after we get reorganized.
At the curriculum committee meeting this month, we heard an update on planning
for the new math curriculum that will replace Mathland in 2008. Teachers are
trying out sample units of two different programs now to see which they prefer.
We also discussed the NECAP results from last year that showed some progress,
but also some lingering gaps we need to work on.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, and also to check out the
school district website which is loaded with information:
