February 21, 2010 - Front Porch Forum Candidate Statement (limited to 1000 characters!)

Dear neighbors,

I am running for reelection as school commissioner, and write to ask for your vote. During my 5 years of service, I have demonstrated hard work and leadership to: create innovative magnet academies instead of redistricting; expand foreign language, music, and afterschool programs; further our progress on diversity issues; increase energy efficiency and accessibility; and insist on transparency and effectiveness in our budget. I have served as Chair of the curriculum committee and member of the finance committee, and am the mother of two graduates of wonderful Champlain school now at EMS and BHS.

Since 2005, I have brought Ward 5 voices and values to the Board, and also taken the time to keep you informed on the Front Porch Forum. All those posts are on my website: www.amywerbel.info. In these challenging times, we need demonstrated leadership and persistence to steer our way to a great future for Burlington’s kids. Please vote yes for Amy Werbel and the school budget!
